Arrest of Mohamed Amra: the end of a nine-month manhunt that revealed the power of drug trafficking in France

It was on a sidewalk in Bucharest (Romania), near the "Promenada" shopping center, that the escape of France's most wanted fugitive, Mohamed Amra, ended at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 22. Sharply surrounded by two hooded Romanian police officers, the trafficker no longer had the defiant look in the photo on his identity card, distributed for nine months by the police of 196 countries. The man nicknamed "The Fly" ("The Fly", on his Interpol red notice) was summarily made up, with orange dye on his hair and beard, and large glasses.

He allowed himself to be arrested without reacting before being presented, on Sunday, to the Bucharest court, where he agreed to be handed over to France . While awaiting his extradition, he was incarcerated under high surveillance in a detention center located in the ^1st district of Bucharest. This is how a manhunt began on May 14, 2024, with his deadly escape at the Incarville toll booth (Eure), during a commando operation that cost the lives of two prison guards, ended.
