Alsace: After pharmacy closures on Saturday, pharmacists write to parliamentarians

"The Collective of Alsatian Pharmacies, made up of 466 pharmacists who own pharmacies, wishes to alert you to the serious consequences of the decree of August 4, 2025, which abruptly caps commercial discounts on generic, hybrid, and biosimilar medicines," write the pharmacists of the collective in a letter co-signed by the Regional Council of the Order of Pharmacists of the Grand Est, the Union of Pharmacy Unions (Uspo) Alsace, and the Federations of Pharmacy Unions (FSPF) of Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin.
"This measure, taken without consultation, threatens the economic balance of thousands of pharmacies , particularly the smallest ones, often located in rural areas or working-class neighborhoods. It represents an estimated loss of several hundred million euros and tens of thousands of euros per pharmacy in one year. 6,000 local pharmacies are threatened, or nearly 30% of the pharmacy network that risks disappearing in our French communities," say the professionals, who point out that their action is part of a national movement.
The French pharmacists' inter-union does not intend to stop there. It will continue to put pressure on the government in the fall: a closure of pharmacies on September 18 and then "every Saturday starting September 27" has already been announced.
