A city increasingly committed to the fight against tobacco

Since July ¹ , a national decree has banned smoking in parks, public gardens, and playgrounds. The city of Joinville, already a pioneer with more than 20 smoke-free spaces (schools, daycare centers, sports facilities, etc.) since October 2022, is taking action to enforce this new rule.

As part of the "Tobacco-Free City" initiative, an information and awareness campaign is running from July 7 to August 7. Public displays and municipal police interventions are being deployed to highlight the importance of this measure.

The main objective is to protect children from passive smoking and prevent them from becoming addicted, as 90% of smokers start before the age of 18.

Failure to comply with the ban is punishable by a fine of €135, which can rise to €750.
