Two films co-produced by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region will be presented at the Cannes Film Festival, held from May 13 to 24.
Two films will represent the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. The event's organizers have just completed their selection of films chosen: The Sun King and Laurent Dans Le Vent, two films co-produced by the region . Partially funded by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Cinéma program, both productions will be presented at the festival, which will be held from May 13 to 24.
Directed by Lyon-based Vincent Maël Cardonna, the short film Le Roi Soleil will be presented at the midnight screening. Its synopsis: A man has died at the Roi Soleil, a bar-cum-PMU in Versailles. He leaves behind a winning lottery ticket worth several million euros. By coming to terms with reality and their consciences, the witnesses to the tragedy could walk away with the money...
Laurent dans le vent , directed by the young trio Anton Balekdjian, Léo Couture and Mattéo Eustachon, tells a completely different story. In this one, 29-year-old Laurent searches for meaning in his life. Without a job or a home, he lands in a deserted ski resort out of season and immerses himself in the lives of the few locals he meets.
As a reminder, this funding is part of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Cinéma program. Through this program, the Region has a co-production fund. This fund allows for the financing of twelve to fifteen films per year, up to €20,000. Support for writing and development, capped at €20,000 for short films, is also offered.
Among the films co-produced by the Region: Justine Triet's award-winning Anatomy of a Fall , which won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and six César Awards, including Best Film. Also included are Artus's A Little Something Extra , and Louise Courvoisier's Twenty-God .
