Philippe Cognée paints a reality in the style of Annie Ernaux, at the Paul-Valéry Museum in Sète

A retrospective is a difficult exercise, especially when the work is long and abundant. The one dedicated to Philippe Cognée at the Paul-Valéry Museum in Sète (Hérault) is therefore all the more remarkable for its clarity.
Cognée was born in 1957 and lives in his native region, near Nantes, where he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in the early 1980s. He now has nearly half a century of creation behind him, and the catalog of his painting would take several volumes, to which would be added those of his works on paper and the numerous books in which he has contributed. We would not risk putting forward figures. From this immense production, the exhibition curators, Stéphane Tarroux and Olivier Weil, highlight the essentials.
