In his sixteenth film, "Volver," starring Carmen Maura and Penélope Cruz, which will be one of the highlights of the Cannes Film Festival, the Spanish filmmaker draws inspiration from the women of his childhood: "They sang and it was a real party."
Almodóvar, the return. A return to his own childhood, to his land, to the women among whom he grew up and who introduced him to life. These women, captured in the opening shots of his sixteenth film, are in a sun-drenched country cemetery, cleaning the graves on the hillside. And it's not sad; on the contrary, it's light, melodious, joyful, and playful.
