Santiago City Hall resumes Carnival organization
The Santiago City Hall has once again taken over the organization of the Santiago Carnival with the aim of projecting it at a national and international level. Mayor Ulises Rodríguez emphasized his administration 's commitment to culture and art, assuring that this new stage seeks to rescue and strengthen the festivity.
"We are reviving the Santiago Carnival . The mayor's office decided to take it back and project it to another level, national and international . This is a pro-culture and pro-art mayor's office," said Rodríguez.
One of the main decisions taken was to change the location of the event, moving it from the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration to the Central Park. This change offers greater parking facilities and strengthens security for attendees.
- The estimated investment for the 2025 carnival ranges between 40 and 42 million pesos, with part of these funds allocated to carnival groups through the six carnival federations, which include more than 200 comparsas and groups.
The director of the Santiago Carnival Organizing Committee, Adalberto Rodríguez, explained that, since the mayor took office, a rigorous evaluation process was carried out for eight months.
This analysis made it possible to identify the key aspects for relaunching the carnival in a structured and effective manner, in collaboration with the carnival federations and a commission appointed by the Mayor's Office .
The result of this study gave rise to a " master plan " based on four fundamental axes: innovation, greater cultural focus, internationalization and a more fun experience for attendees.
As part of this strategy, the mayor traveled to Fitur, where he signed an agreement with the Tour Operators Administration to attract tourists to the cultural festival.
The new carnival setup will have a more innovative, safe and controlled setting. In addition, the Mayor's Office seeks to turn the carnival into a transversal axis to stimulate the productive sector between the months of January and March, promoting crafts, gastronomy and hospitality , thus strengthening the local economy.
