Rome launches a free cultural bus to bring its heritage to every neighborhood.

Rome launches a free cultural bus to bring its heritage to every neighborhood.

A free cultural bus will tour the streets of Rome between July and October to bring its historical, artistic, and cultural heritage to all neighborhoods of the Italian capital, in an initiative promoted and presented by the City Council of the Italian capital.

The project, called "Pe-ppe," aims to facilitate access for Romans to the city's most iconic and lesser-known sites , especially for those who, "due to economic or local constraints," have been unable to enjoy all the capital's attractions, City Hall reported.

More accessible culture

"Pe-ppe is an idea, a concept, an opportunity, and an ambition for a city where culture is increasingly accessible , increasingly widespread, increasingly rooted in every neighborhood," said Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri during the presentation.

The initiative includes five routes through each of the city's 15 districts , with a total of 75 trips over more than three months, on a bus with a capacity of 45 passengers per trip.

Participation in these tours will also guarantee free access to museums and paid events .

"Events, travel, support, and guidance will be available to residents, especially those in the more peripheral neighborhoods where it's most difficult to get around. We want to bring culture closer to residents and also help residents access cultural venues," Gualtieri added.

"Pe-ppe" passengers will enjoy exclusive guided tours of iconic sites such as the Forma Urbis Museum, located in the Celio Archaeological Park; the permanent collection of the Museum of Rome in Palazzo Braschi; the Capitoline Museums; the Montemartini Centrale on Viale Ostiense; and the Ara Pacis Museum.

Thematic itineraries

The program also includes themed tours of the city's historic villas , such as Villa Borghese and Villa Torlonia, as well as evening visits along the Via dei Fori Imperiali and tours focusing on 16th-century Rome.

It will also facilitate participation in cultural events during the Roman summer, such as open-air film screenings and literary and theater festivals, such as the Ostia Antica festival.
