Pedro Pascal's Fantastic Four defeats Superman (and breaks the box office curse)


The latest installment of Marvel's legendary superheroes, Fantastic Four , led by Chilean actor Pedro Pascal , has grossed $118 million (€101 million) in the United States and Canada in its first weekend in theaters, according to the Office Mojo website. The figures are slightly below expectations, taking into account pre-sales made for the first day.
From Disney+, Fantastic Four: First Steps premiered on the 25th and has since grossed $218 million worldwide, dethroning Superman. James Gunn's film, which is in second place, has already surpassed $500 million worldwide since its release in theaters on July 11. Superman has had a very good response at the US box office, but not nearly as much in the rest of the world.

Rounding out the top five is Paramount's animated musical Smurfs , with $5.4 million in US theaters. The family film has grossed $46 million internationally. The worldwide total is $69 million.
