Meet the 'new Dumbledore' for HBO's 'Harry Potter' series

Eight films, ten years and "two Albus Dumbledores" will be left behind with the new Harry Potter series produced by HBO . The mega production will premiere on Max in the television series format that will allow the four directors for the big screen to extend the stories that they decided to leave out. However, as if it were magic itself, the production has maintained a strong secrecy around the filmmakers who will be part of this saga that will be filmed over several years.

So far, only Francesca Gardiner had been revealed as the scriptwriter of the television series. In addition, the casting calls for the three main characters of the story had gone viral: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley . It will surely be a milestone when the faces and decisions behind these three characters are finally revealed, since the project plans to follow the growth of the children alongside the story.

However, the hiring of the actor of one of the central characters in the story and, for many, one of the most beloved, has just been confirmed . Albus Dumbledore already has a new face after Michael Gambon and Richard Harris , both deceased, were part of the iconic Warner Bros saga.

In an interview with ScreenRant , John Lithgow has confirmed that he has been cast in HBO 's new Harry Potter series as Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore . The 79-year-old actor has not been able to reveal any other details about this mysterious production, beyond confirming his role in the series.

"I'm really excited. Some really talented people are turning to ' Harry Potter ' again. It was a tough decision. I'll be 87 when we celebrate the end of filming, but I said yes, " Lithgow revealed about his involvement in HBO 's Harry Potter series.

Lithgow is an American actor who has appeared in Conclave , Killers Moon , Dexter , The Crown , The Accountant , Louie , Interstellar , and Shrek , among many other high-caliber productions.
