Joan Mas, lawyer and singer-songwriter: "At my age, I can combine my professional life with my leisure time."

Joan Mas Brillas doesn't paint. It's almost the only thing he doesn't do, because Mas is something of a Renaissance man: poet, singer, composer, lawyer, entrepreneur, patron of young businesspeople, writer, defender of charitable causes... and, above all, a lover of life.

Mas, who just turned 69, doesn't plan to waste all that energy, not even remotely. He doesn't plan on retiring. "At my age, I can combine my professional life with my business life and my leisure time," he explains in a conversation with La Vanguardia . His daily life involves a multitude of economic activities in areas as diverse as urban planning and catering.

And although he's been busy, he's still found time to write. He's just published 50 canciones liberadas (50 songs liberated ) (Universo de Letras), an atypical work that combines family stories—such as that of his great-grandfather Tanet Canut, which alone would make a novel—with life reflections, memories of his work as a lawyer and businessman, and a valuable study of the world of singer-songwriters.

50 songs released is also an original audiobook that allows you to read the lyrics and listen to the songs composed and performed by Mas via a QR code. Delicious songs such as "Caen las diez en La Habana", "Lluny de les ombres", "Si parla el vent" or "De les nits de Mallorca" .

"I wanted to capture some memories and anecdotes in the book, but above all, I tried to give meaning to all these songs, because I come from a family with artistic roots, and I needed to explain why a lawyer and businessman started writing songs," he says.

Perhaps business activity forced Mas to put a promising musical career on hold, but the lawyer has no regrets: “Writing music at night has allowed me to disconnect from work problems and do something for others, because all my concerts, without exception, have been for charity.”

Manu Guix at the Gestmusic press conference

She made her debut at the library in her hometown, Esplugues de Llobregat, at the age of 14. She has played at the Palau de la Música and the Liceu, and tomorrow she will perform at Luz de Gas with Manu Guix, Pedro Javier Hermosilla, Ramón Mirabet, and Elena Gadel, who will perform some of her 50 songs, released for the book launch.

"I've always performed my own songs, but now I'd love to start writing for other singers like José Luis Perales or Pedro Guerra, who is a true master of songwriter music." His beloved Cerdanya will be the ideal place to embark on this new endeavor. It's never too late if the joy is good.
