Good news for Harry Potter fans: the series is coming to HBO, and here's everything we know about it.

Good news for Harry Potter fans: the series is coming to HBO, and here's everything we know about it.

HBO is launching a new series that promises to be a faithful adaptation of the seven books. The premiere is scheduled for late 2026 or early 2027, but the details have already begun to delight— and divide—fans.

The series, which will run for seven seasons over a decade, will feature each book as a full season . This will allow for a deeper dive into plots and characters that were once overlooked in the films, according to the project's creators, Francesca Gardiner (Succession) and Mark Mylod (Game of Thrones).

The new actors who will play the iconic trio have already been confirmed: Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry , Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley. The three were chosen from among more than 30,000 children who auditioned.

Stanton has previous West End experience, where she starred in "Matilda: The Musical" and "Starlight Express," while McLaughlin has worked on television with the British comedy "Grow." Stout, on the other hand, is little known beyond her appearance in a potato commercial.

Cast of ten and a great investment

Among the adults confirmed for the cast are some notable names. John Lithgow will play Dumbledore , in what he himself has admitted could be the last major role of his career. Also starring are Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, and Nick Frost as Hagrid.

The series, which has already cost more than $1.3 billion to develop alone, will be filmed at Leavesden, the studio where the original films were born.

Many fans are already wondering who will play Lord Voldemort . Although there are rumors about possible candidates, HBO has so far preferred to keep the name of the actor who will embody the wizarding world's most feared villain a secret.

JK Rowling's involvement as executive producer has generated mixed reviews. However, she has expressed enthusiasm for the new cast: "All three are wonderful," she wrote.

The creators have stated that this adaptation will allow for “better exploration of the supporting characters and Hogwarts staff,” as well as “delve deeper into the narrative arcs” that fans know from the books.
