Basque public television responds to ANOET and apologizes for the intolerable claim that bullfighting is "murdered."

On July 6th, during a newscast on EITB (Basque public television) about the San Fermin festival, the program "Teleberri por la noche" (Teleberri in the evening) offered details of the running of the bulls . During the broadcast, it was said that the bulls would be "fought and killed" in the bullring that afternoon. This is completely unacceptable.
For this reason, the National Association of Bullfighting Organizers (ANOET) issued a statement demanding an immediate rectification "so that bullfighting receives the dignified and respectful treatment it deserves as Spanish Cultural Heritage, as provided for in Law 18/2013 of November 12."
And he continued: "We believe that EITB, a public television station and therefore funded by the taxes of all Basques, should respect all cultural expressions and the diversity of its audience and not position itself as anti-bullfighting, as is clearly evident from the content of this news piece. ANOET will send a letter to EITB management requesting that they determine who is responsible for what it considers to be a news coverage that violates the freedom of all Basques."
The EITB Ombudsman's Office for Television, Radio, and Internet Users was quick to respond, apologetically. The Ombudsman states that "EITB cannot, and should not, accept any bias in its reporting, thus allowing for the personal opinions and positions of its professionals." The Basque television station regrets "the use of totally inappropriate language" and assures that it has already contacted the journalist who prepared this report "with the aim of avoiding possible future situations of this type."
ANOET appreciates "EITB's prompt response and the measures it has taken to ensure these sectarian stances are not repeated in its news services."
