'Mountain Murder Mystery,' the darkest, smartest comedy you'll see this year.

Jura is a quiet, small, cold town surrounded by mountains and rivers, whose inhabitants are preparing to celebrate Christmas. Nothing special ever happens in Jura. Until one day, a drug dealer shows up and runs into a bear. He tries to escape and ends up dead after falling off one of the idyllic cliffs.
And then the bear jumps into the car of Michel, the local Christmas tree seller. Michel loses control and crashes into the vehicle of the drug dealer's accomplices. The girl dies on impact and is left dead. Her colleague tries to escape and crashes into a sharp tree branch. Dead too.
“I created a cocktail that I didn't know how it would turn out, mixing serious actors with a bizarre situation.”The brown bear causes a stir and thus begins Mysterious Murder on the Mountain , a very dark comedy written, directed by and starring Franck Dubosc, who plays Michel, who in his attempt to hide the meats discovers a bag containing two million euros.
"I created a cocktail that I didn't know how it would turn out, mixing serious actors with a far-fetched situation, and the result was this black comedy," Dubosc explains in an interview with La Vanguardia .

Perhaps because of the snow that covers Jura at Christmas, perhaps because a good-natured, sharper-than-he-appears police officer takes charge of the investigation, Murder Mystery on the Mountain has been compared to the acclaimed Fargo (Joel Coen, 1996). “I love the Coen brothers' films, which are funny because they feature deaths and murders and make us laugh with situations taken to the extreme. I'm proud that they compare my film to Fargo , but I really think it's just a visual issue, because of the snow,” the director notes.

Dubosc, like Woody Allen, directs himself, and that always seems like a challenge for any filmmaker, but the French director doesn't give it too much thought because "when you write a film, you know exactly what you want, and I also have a very loyal team that takes care of the production." "It's not that complicated. I've done it three times already."
For the filming of Mountain Murder Mystery , a box-office hit in France, Dubosc moved to the quiet Jura village and mingled with its inhabitants, which "inspired me and helped me create some of the characteristics of my characters." The director recalls that the house where he filmed "lives with a man who is even more rustic than the film's protagonist."

A film that has delighted the locals: "All the residents of Jura have seen it 17 times and are enthusiastic." Dubosc believes it will also appeal to Spanish audiences because "what I'm proposing is something quite fresh for the temperatures currently being recorded in Spain and because they're going to experience something extraordinary that will make them laugh," he concludes.
