Olivia Munn Details Husband John Mulaney’s Support Amid Cancer Journey
Things are looking up for Olivia Munn.
Nearly one year after sharing her breast cancer diagnosis, the Newsroom alum offered a positive update on her health.
“I’m doing good now,” she told E! News exclusively at TIME’s Women of the Year Gala in Los Angeles Feb. 25. “I’m feeling really good and feeling really grateful.”
And Olivia, 44, was especially grateful for husband John Mulaney’s support throughout her cancer journey, which included undergoing a double mastectomy.
“He’s the best—I could not have gone through this as effortlessly as it was at some times with him,” she continued. “It was such a struggle to go through every day, but he was there making the hard things so much easier. He was making the things that made me really emotional less sad and just made me feel really protected and safe.” (For more from Olivia and other stars at TIME’s Women of the Year Gala, tune in to E! The actress—who shares son Malcolm, 3, and daughter Méi, 5 months, with the comedian—also praised him as a parent, adding, “He’s just the most amazing father that my children could ever ask for.”
In fact, Olivia described raising their kids as a bright spot amid her health battle, gushing that being with her little ones is “really, really fun.”
“Malcolm is 3 so he’s on the go. He needs a lot of entertainment,” she explained, noting that Méi has a much calmer demeanor. “She is just the squishiest, happiest baby. She’s so easy. We just kind of cart her around everywhere. Just being at home and being with them is our favorite thing to do.”
As for John, the Big Mouth actor previously reflected on how his wife’s struggles have impacted their life together.
“We've had a really eventful, amazing couple years,” the 42-year-old told E! News in November, “with a lot of, you know, dealing with Olivia’s cancer and a lot of tight and scary moments sometimes.”
And while Olivia said during her speech at the gala that she still has “years to go” in her treatment, the couple—who wed in July—have managed to find reasons to smile along the way.
“In the past couple years, we've laughed so much through everything,” he continued. “So I don't mean to sound corny or overly saccharine, but it's just been really...we've been so tight and had a lot of fun, despite everything.”
